Active for 40 years, Jeremiah warns of coming disaster to an unrepentant Judah; he observes the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem in 587 BCE and Jewish exile. Jeremiah contains the famous prophecy of a 'New Covenant' written on the heart (ch. 31).
Jeremiah was a prophet in 6BCE and 5BCE, who lived through the destruction of Jerusalem and its temple, when the people of Israel were taken into slavery in Babylonia. His prophecies are recorded in the Book of Jeremiah in the Old Testament.
Being sorry for one's actions and desiring to act differently in the future.

The city on a hill (Mt. Zion) which King David captured and made the capital of Israel. It was the site of the Temple built by Solomon and of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. Today it is still a holy city for Jews, Christians and Muslims.

A covenant is a binding agreement or treaty. Used in the Bible of God's relationship with his people. At the Last Supper, Jesus speaks of a 'new covenant' which will come into effect through his death.
